JOB SUMMARY: The Laboratory Lead: Point of Care Specialist is responsible for the day to day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation and testing personnel performing testing (including high complexity) results. Supervises, coordinates, and participates in activities of laboratory personnel performing various lab procedures including high complexity testing. Interacts with all laboratory employees, physicians, hospital personnel, and patients of all ages including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics, visitors, and employees from other agencies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  1. A.A.S. degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited college or university required.
  2. Registered Medical Technologist (ASCP< AMT, or equivalent) required
  3. Three to five years experience in the clinical laboratory preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the Director with the day to day operations of the Laboratory.

Complies with all policies, procedures and related protocols as established by the department and/or organization.

Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.

Provides orientation to all testing personnel.

Quality assessment and quality control of laboratory procedures in area of specialization.

Budgeting, Inventory control, cost analysis, workload statistics, and responds to variations in budgeting.

Good communication skills when dealing with other departments, co-workers, etc.

Has the authority to discipline and recommend dismissal of employees.

Annually evaluates and documents the performance and competency of all clinical laboratory personnel and testing personnel.

Compliance and enforcement of regulatory agency standards.

Record keeping (Quality control, quality assessment, patient data, financial studies, etc.)

Completes daily/weekly time keeping functions as needed.

Completes weekly purchasing of all supplies/minor equipment.

Works with corporate/materials management buying groups for vendor and supply selections.

Completes biannual inventory counts.
